What We Pass Along
By Nelly Vee
Primary theme: Resilience Related themes: Kindness and Belonging, Cultural Wisdom, Words of Encouragement
I’ve come to realize that hope doesn’t always arrive through beautiful speeches. Sometimes it sounds like someone asking, "Have you eaten?" or saying, "I saved you a seat."
The human mind has a peculiar habit. When life becomes difficult, we sometimes mistake one painful chapter for the entire book. We begin treating yesterday’s disappointments as predictions of tomorrow.
But pain is a messenger, not a fortune-teller.
Philosophy raises a question I’ve often considered: What makes a life meaningful? Is it what we accumulate, or what becomes lighter for someone because we existed?
We come from different cultures, speak different languages, and carry histories that don’t always fit neatly together. Yet the need to belong, to be understood, and to matter crosses every border.
I’ve come to see kindness as a small lamp in a long hallway. It doesn’t eliminate every obstacle, but it provides enough light to recognize the next step.
I won’t pretend every hardship happens for a reason. Sometimes life offers questions without answers, and even the strongest among us grow weary.
Perhaps resilience isn’t about never bending. Even trees survive storms by learning when to yield.
This Thanksgiving, if life has given you peace, share some. If you’re still searching for it, remember that one difficult season cannot define your entire existence.
Maybe hope isn’t something we possess.
Maybe it’s something we pass along.
