Place: a voice between worlds
Raised in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, Nelly Vee carries a Caribbean perspective into a body of work shaped by poetry, storytelling, and life across different places. The album draws on that cultural grounding without confining itself to any one genre. Its atmosphere makes room for tenderness, conflict, reflection, and the spaces between them.
Choice: taking the page into sound
ChronicleS: Where Shadows Breathe is the literary source of the album. These original songs developed from the author’s writing rather than being assembled as an unrelated music collection. One example is Puzzle Pieces, which grew from the written piece Puzzle Pieces — Completion. Across the recording, ideas first expressed on the page find another form through song, voice, and sound.
The record is not presented as a collection of isolated singles. Its introduction, central songs, and closing movement belong to one album experience, inviting listeners to follow its progression instead of selecting only a favorite track.

Echo: what remains after the music
Across the album, questions of attachment, distance, self-understanding, and personal change return in different musical forms. Even when a song seems to speak directly about another person, it can leave the listener thinking about what the experience reveals within themselves.
When a story changes its form, does its meaning remain the same?

A story doesn’t lose its meaning simply because it finds another way to speak.
When I wrote ChronicleS, every word carried something deeper than what appeared on the page. There were emotions, experiences, struggles, and truths that I wanted people to recognize, even if they had never walked the same road.
Turning those stories into music didn’t change what I was saying. It gave those feelings another way to reach someone.
There’s a difference between reading about pain and hearing it in someone’s voice. Between understanding a struggle intellectually and feeling its weight through a melody.
That’s what interests me about storytelling. Two people can encounter the same story through different forms and walk away with different emotions, yet both discover something true.
The story hasn’t changed. The way it reaches the human spirit has.
And to me, that’s the beauty of giving ChronicleS another life through music.
